Written Works
I have composed many analysises of video games as well as explored pertinent philosophical and etihical issues in the video game world. Here are three examples of my work...
How Do Plato's Theories Relate to Video Games?
This paper discusses Plato's idea of what culture was and how this can be either helpful or detrimental to a society. Plato believed that we should control culture and what society is exposed to for the better good of the community. Even though video games may be labeled as "detrimental" by some because of the violent nature of some 'M' rated games, this does not mean that they should not exist, it is up to the user and his or her parents to decide what is best for each individual. The paper can be found here.
Gender, Race, and Representation in Video Game Magazines
Game Informer Magazine, specifically issue 174, simply reflects the virtual video game world as of today, and the video game world is what needs to change. It needs to stop objectifying and degrading women, incorporate more minorities and women into its games, and attempt to branch out and lessen the amount of military violence based games. Although Game Informer is just portraying the video game industry, the largest problem with it is the large amount of military influence and glorification of war in their advertising and imageryin the video games reviewed. The paper can be found here.
A Critical Analysis of Halo 3's Campaign
An in-depth look at the most profitable game of 2007. Talks about problematic themes shown in the game such as violence, power and masculinity, omnipotent fantasies of the self and most importantly, the blurring of reality and fiction, especially with the advertising techniques used for the game. The paper can be found here.
